Treasury Support AI Agent: Hedge Paperwork at Inception, Officers Sign

Published: October 27, 2026

A treasury support AI agent from Nestack Agent Care does one job well: it gets the hedge paperwork written on time, gathers the evidence beneath it, and then waits for a named treasury officer to sign. It drafts the designation. It never makes the designation.

Why timing is the whole problem

Hedge accounting depends on documentation that exists at inception. Under ASC 815 and IFRS 9 the memorandum has to be in place when the hedge is struck; a memo written after the trade cannot turn that relationship into a hedge later. Nestack's page notes that ASU 2025-09 widens what may be designated from 2027 but leaves this inception deadline exactly where it was. So the agent raises both records together on the trade date, and if a position cannot be evidenced at inception, it records that as the finding instead of papering over it.

One designation, from dealer ticket to memorandum

  1. Evidence received. Dealer confirmations, the board hedging policy, exposure schedules and the forecast schedule.
  2. Relationship fixed and dated. The hedged item, the hedging instrument, the risk being hedged and the inception date.
  3. Memorandum raised at inception. Risk-management objective, hedge ratio, effectiveness method and its known weak points.
  4. Date checks applied. Policy-to-instrument checks, functional-currency checks, date checks and a drafting confidence score.

Nothing is designated at any of these four stages. At the designation gate, a memorandum that is complete against policy goes straight to the named treasury officer, while anything thin gets a technical-accounting read first. The officer can designate, append evidence or send it to technical review, and every correction the officer makes is counted when the agent is evaluated.

What stays with people

The agent never designates a hedging relationship, never authorises a payment order, never concludes that a hedge is effective, never classifies debt in the accounts and never tells a lender a covenant test was met. Payment duties are deliberately kept outside its scope, because handing them over would weaken the company's position under the agreed security procedure for payment orders.

Delivery

Typical delivery is four to six weeks on your existing treasury stack, followed by ongoing monitoring under Nestack Agent Care, the managed AI agent operations service from Nestack.
